Yggdrasil
Tree of Life pendant on quartz.
5 x 3 cm
Yellow-hued quartz is a form of silicon dioxide; its golden shades arise primarily from trace impurities and variations in the crystal structure, often involving the presence of iron. Its warm color imbues it with symbolism associated with light, vitality, energy, and growth, while quartz itself is linked in esoteric traditions to purity, focus, and the amplification of intention. The motif of Yggdrasil—the sacred tree of Norse mythology—naturally complements this symbolism: its roots reach into the depths of the world, its trunk holds the center, and its crown expands toward the heavens, thereby connecting different levels of existence. Together, the stone and the tree represent a life force that is firmly rooted in the earth yet constantly growing upward—a union of roots, experience, energy, and future direction.
The piece is handcrafted from surgical steel, using a tin-silver alloy for the binding material. It requires maintenance similar to silver—occasional polishing. The more the piece is worn, the better, as friction against clothing or the wearer's skin naturally polishes it. The metal is durable and free of nickel and heavy metals. The jewelry can be worn continuously, even in water, though it is advisable to dry it off afterward and polish it more frequently. It hangs on a braided cotton cord secured with an adjustable sliding knot.
