Jewelry with purple iolite.
5.5 x 3 cm
iolite is a gemstone variety of the mineral cordierite, known for its blue-violet to gray-blue shades. Its name comes from the Greek word ios, meaning violet, which refers to its typical color. Iolite occurs mainly in metamorphic rocks rich in aluminum and magnesium, often in gneisses and crystalline schists.
One of the most interesting properties of iolite is its pronounced pleochroism - when viewed from different angles, it can change color from dark blue to purple to slightly golden or gray. This optical effect makes each stone lively and changeable. The hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale makes it a relatively durable mineral suitable for jewelry processing.
Historically, iolite has been referred to as the "Viking stone". According to some theories, the Vikings used it as a simple navigation stone to determine the position of the sun under cloudy skies due to its ability to polarize light.
Iolite is traditionally associated with intuition, inner peace and the ability to find one's own direction. Its energy is perceived as deep, quiet and very introspective. It does not appear strong or chaotic, but rather gently leads a person to a greater understanding of themselves. It is often associated with the third eye and supporting inner insight. Traditions attribute to it the ability to help with decision-making, calm an overloaded mind and support trust in one's own intuition. It is considered a stone of personal journey, independence and discovery of deeper layers of consciousness.
Iolite primarily appeals to people seeking peace, a deeper connection with themselves and a gentle but stable energy for personal development.
The construction of the jewelry is handmade from surgical steel and the connecting material is an alloy of tin and silver. The jewelry is then treated similarly to silver - we polish it once in a while. The more the jewelry is worn, the better, it polishes itself on clothes, the wearer's skin, etc. The metal is stable and does not contain nickel or heavy metals. The jewelry can be worn all the time, even in water, but it is good to dry it afterwards and treat it more often. The jewelry is hung on a braided, cotton cord and secured with an enlargement knot.
