Raw black schorl—also known as black tourmaline—is an iron-rich variety of tourmaline characterized by a columnar crystal structure and a deep black hue. It forms primarily in pegmatites and other boron-rich rocks, where its crystals grow into distinctive, longitudinally striated columns. Its naturally rough surface and irregular structure evoke a raw aesthetic, presenting the stone in its most unrefined form. The addition of a raven’s talon introduces symbolism associated with intelligence, vigilance, and the ability to perceive what remains hidden. In European mythology, the raven has been linked to mystery, prophecy, death, and transformation, as well as to wit and the ability to survive in harsh conditions. As a predatory motif from the natural world, the talon represents grasping, steadfastness, and decisiveness—the ability to hold fast to what truly matters. In esoteric symbolism, black schorl is frequently used for protection, grounding, and maintaining personal boundaries; the raven’s talon translates this meaning into a powerful image of personal strength and alertness. Their combination thus creates a symbol of protection, instinct, and a firm stance toward the outside world. It is not a motif of aggression, but rather of a strength that need not show off, for it knows exactly when to act.

The piece is handcrafted from surgical steel, using a tin-silver alloy for the joinery. It requires care similar to that of silver jewelry—occasional polishing is recommended. The more the piece is worn, the better; it polishes itself through contact with clothing, the wearer's skin, and so on. The metal is durable and contains neither nickel nor heavy metals. The jewelry can be worn constantly, even in water, though it is advisable to dry it off and care for it more frequently in such cases. The piece hangs on a braided cotton cord and is secured with an adjustable sliding knot.
