Zahünedy is a variety of quartz whose characteristic smoky to dark brown color is created by the action of natural radioactive radiation on trace elements inside the crystal during its formation. The crystals form deep in the earth's crust, often in cracks and cavities of rocks, where they have space to slowly grow into typical hexagonal shapes. It is the slow geological process that gives Zahünedy its depth, translucency and unique color transitions. The unprocessed crystal retains its natural structure and raw beauty, which nature has created for millions of years without human intervention. Each piece is an original bearing the imprint of geological time.
